Federal agents are continuing their investigation of a former nurse at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital on child pornography charges, but a university spokesman says no link has been found between images on the suspect's computer and Doernbecher Children's Hospital patients.
Hospital officials also say that federal agents have questioned staff members specifically about two images of children.
According to court documents, those two pictures show naked boys' bodies from the waist down. Both have catheters, and one boy is in a diaper.
OHSU's security chief says the diapers and catheters are like ones used at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. But those same types are also used at many pediatric hospitals across the country.
Neither federal agents nor OHSU staff members have been able to link the two photos to Doernbecher patients.
"We're also going to begin an internal assessment once the criminal investigation is done," says Greg Moawad, OHSU's public safety director. "We're looking for what sort of warning signs may have been missed about this individual, if any, and what change of policy or practice needs to be done to avoid this coming up in the future."
OHSU staff members say they are updating the case on their website and maintaining a telephone bank to answer parents' questions.
