Tre Arrow planning run for Portland mayor

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man once convicted of firebombing trucks at a logging company has filed paperwork to run for mayor in Portland.

Tre Arrow, who lives in northeast Portland, printed his name on the filing paperwork with an arrow shooting off the letter W. His prospective nomination petition to run for mayor was filed Wednesday, according to the city elections office.

In order to appear on the May primary ballot as a candidate for mayor, Arrow needs 100 valid registered voter signatures. He says that won't be a problem.

"Someone speaking from their heart like myself that can really bring about some positive change on a municipal level," said Arrow from his northeast Portland home.

The top two candidates from the primary go on to appear on the November ballot for Mayor of Portland. Arrow says, even though he doesn't have any political experience, he's ready to be mayor.

"Really I'm representing the 100 percent right. Let's see if we can redistribute some of this wealth and have it be more equal for everybody," added Arrow.

Also known as Michael Scarpitti, Arrow listed his current occupation as: musician, performer, sound healer and Food Not Bombs activist. He also listed his previous occupations as dishwasher and food prep at the Blossoming Lotus restaurant in Portland, as well as "City Repair/Village Building Convergence food nourishment coordinator."

"There's something about me that, I have nothing to hide and a lot of my life has already been in the public eye. People know I care about things and that's why I've done what I've done and that's why I continue to do what I do," said Arrow.

A little more than a month ago, Arrow climbed a 50-foot tree in southeast Portland and sat there for hours, shouting about the environment. It was the first time Arrow had been in the spotlight since being released from prison in June 2009.

He first rose to infamy when he climbed atop a Portland building to protest a timber sale. He stayed there for days.

The May Primary is set for May 15.
