MARTIN COUNTY, FL (RNN) - The funeral for former Monkees frontman Davy Jones, scheduled for this week, will be private. His former co-stars won't even be in attendance.

The family has chosen not to publicize the date or time of the event, which The Hollywood Reporter had said could take place as early as Wednesday.

In the days after Jones' death, Monkees drummer Micky Dolenz told Billboard that the family wanted "to avoid a media circus."

"The family wants to keep it very, very low-key and very, very private," Dolenz said. "And you can imagine as soon as one or two or any of us were to show up, it would very quickly be degraded into something that I don't think his immediate family would want to deal with."

Public memorials are also being planned in New York and Manchester, England, according to Billboard magazine. The Monkees will attend the events, and Dolenz has expressed hope they would reunite to perform in Jones' honor.

"It's pretty early days, you know, to be making too many plans," Dolenz said to Billboard. "I'm still in shock."

Jones, 66, died Feb. 29 of a massive heart attack. His body is expected to be cremated, according to TMZ, who cited family sources in its report.

The British-born actor-singer shot to fame in the U.S. in 1966 after his starring run in the NBC sitcom The Monkees.

The zany comedy capitalized on the fame of the Beatles. It ran for two seasons and featured Jones, Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork as members of a fictional rock band.

Although less successful after winning the right to play their own music, the made-for-TV group topped charts and sold millions of records.

Among the groups biggest hit singles are "Last Train to Clarksville" and "Daydream Believer."

In 2008, Yahoo Music crowned Jones the top teen idol of all-time, where he beat out the likes of Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus.

His idol status was once the subject of an iconic episode of The Brady Brunch in which Marcia (Maureen McCormick) lands the singer as a performer - and her date - for her high school prom.

Jones, also a Tony-nominated actor, is survived by Jessica Pacheco-Jones, his wife, and their four daughters: Talia Jones, Sarah McFadden, Jessica Cramar and Annabel Jones.
