Julie’s homemade salsa

This recipe is courtesy of Julie Hasson. Serves four.


  • 1/2 jalapeno chile, stemmed, optional
  • 1/4 small yellow or red onion
  • 2 handfuls cilantro leaves, or to taste, rinsed & patted dry
  • 1 14.5-oz can chopped tomatoes, preferably organic
  • 1 canned chipotle pepper or sprinkle smoked paprika, optional
  • Salt to taste


  • In the bowl of a food processor fitted with the metal blade, add the jalapeno, onion and cilantro and pulse just until diced.
  • Add the tomatoes and chipotle or smoked paprika, pulsing until combined. Don't over-process the salsa.
  • Place salsa in a bowl. Add salt to taste. Stir well.
