It's not clear what caused the driver to crash into the pool.
VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -
A driver crashed into a swimming pool outside a Vancouver home and then walked away from the mangled car, pushed up against a water slide, Friday morning.
Clark County Sheriff's deputies said the homeowner reported the crash on 84th Loop around 4:40 a.m.
"We heard a big crash and a big bang. Right away, we looked out the window and I saw a car in the pool," said homeowner Susan Cook. "My husband saw a guy jump over the fence and head down the way. We called 911... and we came out here to see if there was anyone in the car."
Firefighters said it appears the driver left the road on Northwest 21st Avenue on the back side of the house, crashed through a fence outside the home and landed in the swimming pool.
A cover on the pool prevented the car from sinking.
The driver, who is in his 20s, was able to get himself out of the car. He walked away from the crash scene, but was found nearby and then taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
"All of the emergency personnel came out here, and they were like, 'That's a first for me,'" said homeowner Jeff Goodwin.
In addition to the pool itself, a pool house on the property was damaged in the crash.
There's no word on what caused the crash at this point.
"I'm glad it was at night and nobody was out here. You think about your kids," Cook said.
Crews waited until daylight before they brought in a crane to remove the car.
The pool will need to be drained to remove gasoline that spilled into the water, according to the fire department.
Clark County deputies are still investigating the crash.
