Program offers cash for older refrigerators

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Anyone who has an old freezer or refrigerator that is taking up space may get some cash for recycling it.

Energy Trust of Oregon is offering to pick up those old models, giving their owners a $40 cash incentive in return.

Purchase of a new model is not necessary in order to participate. The only requirement is that the freezer or refrigerator must be between ten and 30 cubic feet and in working condition.

If customers are looking to buy a replacement, however, they can receive a cash incentive of up to $100 from Energy Trust for a new high-efficiency, qualifying Energy Star refrigerator or freezer.

Pick up is free and freezers and refrigerators can be hauled from any place in the home. All Oregon customers of Portland General Electric and Pacific Power are eligible for the recycling program.

To schedule an appointment for pickup, call 1-866-444-8907 or click here.
