PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Parkrose school teachers have reached a tentative agreement to the framework of a deal with the school district, it was announced Friday morning.
The two sides have been involved in lengthy talks all week and they reached the possible deal at about 7:30 a.m. after 13 hours of bargaining.
The district and the teachers are in agreement on the basic issues, but they will meet Tuesday to iron out the details of the deal and a vote will follow.
Union members will be filled in over the weekend on what was agreed upon so far, said Bruce Shearer, with the Oregon Education Association. If the deal goes through as planned, a strike would be avoided.
Many of the teachers involved in the negotiations overnight were back at work in the classroom Friday morning, according to the Parkrose Faculty Association.
