PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Just in time for the 2012 NFL draft, new Nike jerseys are going on sale.

The local company won the contract with the NFL, and some of their uniforms are already turning heads.

FOX 12 was invited to the Beaverton campus to get a sneak peek at the story behind the jerseys some of the players will be sporting.

Nike unveiled the new jerseys for NFL teams earlier this month, but Morgan Shaw of Nike communications says only the Seattle Seahawks jersey was completely re-invented.

Shaw says they're very proud to have the Seahawks stand up as the one team that wanted to make a change.

The innovative new jerseys were a collaboration between Nike and actual players. Those players, including some from the Seahawks, traveled to the Beaverton campus to show Nike what was important to them in a jersey.

The jerseys were designed at the Nike sports research lab behind closed doors.

Body scans get hundreds of measurements of the athletes, and the stretch woven fabric of the jerseys actually moves with the players and doesn't absorb water.

Nike worked with all 32 teams, and while some maintained their traditional look, the Seahawks were different.

Their new jerseys represent the Pacific Northwest - the blue of the ocean, the green of the moss and even the alternate gray wolf color.

But the biggest feature of the Seahawks jerseys honor their great fans, the 12th man.

The jerseys have bird wings across the shoulders, 12 Seahawk feathers in the neckline and down the pants, there's even a number 12 sewn into the collar of the jersey that symbolizes the 12th man.
