PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland police officers were dispatched to Southeast 12th Avenue and Pine Street on Thursday evening on the report that a possibly suicidal subject was in the area armed with a handgun.
Friends of 25-year-old Timothy Anderson called the Troutdale Police Department after receiving suicidal text messages and statements from Anderson on Facebook. Anderson was believed to be armed with a handgun.
Officers arriving in lower southeast Portland located Anderson's empty vehicle parked at Southeast 11th Avenue and Ash Street and saw a man that matched his description sitting next to a house near the car.
Police developed a plan to contain the area to prevent Anderson from leaving and worked on a tactical plan to contact Anderson safely and take him into custody.
While the plan was being finalized, Anderson walked over to his car as if to leave. Officers were able to contact Anderson and take him into custody without incident. At the time of his arrest, Anderson was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.
Officers said Anderson was sitting near the home of a female victim that he'd been stalking.
Anderson was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, coercion, possession of a loaded firearm, criminal mischief in the second-degree and stalking.
Bail is set at $130,500. Anderson will be arraigned Friday in Multnomah County Court.
