PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Paramedics worked for 20 minutes to revive a man after Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies said he jumped into the Willamette River.
The man went into the water near the Oregon Maritime Museum and was under water for about five minutes before crews pulled him out.
Witnesses say the man, who was fully clothed and not wearing a life jacket, jumped over the sea wall into the river Sunday afternoon.
Within minutes firefighters on jet skis responded. Firefighters say the water temperature was 52 degrees. A rescue swimmer pulled the man out.
"He was completely unconscious. He wasn't kicking or anything or moving; his eyes were open and his mouth was open," said Analise Powell, a witness who watched the rescue unfold.
Paramedics performed CPR for 20 minutes, before the man was taken to an area hospital.
Witnesses told FOX 12 they heard the man and two friends talking about jumping in the river before the man reportedly jumped in the water.
They say the man's friends ran off after he went in.
The man was at OHSU in critical condition Sunday night. His current condition is unknown.
