Fishing contest comes to Oregon

Posted: Updated:
SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Have you ever seen a fish worth $1 million? Well, there is a chance some fisherman in Oregon could land a very special fish worth that much, thanks to a new contest.

Sporting goods store Cabela's, along with the Outdoor Channel and various fish and wildlife agencies across the country, are teaming up for a very special contest that is a little bit fishy.

And that's the point.

Crane Prairie Reservoir in Deschutes County and Dexter and Blue River Reservoirs in Lane County have been selected as Oregon's representatives in the "Wanna Go Fishing for Millions" contest.

The contest starts May 5 and continues through July 8.

Participants must register online to be eligible for prizes.

Each lake has been stocked with about a dozen trout tagged with a small "spaghetti" tag. The lucky anglers who catch these fish can claim their prizes by entering the tag number and other information on Cabela's website.

This is the second year Oregon has participated in the contest.

This year, other prizes include Ranger boats, Costa sunglasses, Rapala fishing tackle, Abu Garcia rods and reels, Cabela's gift cards and, of course, lots of cold hard cash for the lucky angler.
