ST. HELENS, OR (KPTV) -
A 32-year-old Vancouver man has died from injuries he suffered in a weekend shooting in St. Helens, police said.
Police booked a suspect in the shooting into the Columbia County Jail after they said he shot two people and then crashed a stolen car during a high-speed police chase overnight.
Michael Lytsell, 30, is facing charges of attempted murder, first degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of firearm and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Police say neighbors called 911 when gunfire erupted just after 1 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Second Street.
When police arrived, they said they spotted the suspect racing away in a stolen vehicle. They chased him for a short distance at a high rate of speed.
Lytsell lost control and crashed into a ditch near the intersection of West Street and Oregon Street, police said.
He was taken into custody and transported to OHSU for treatment of the injuries he received in the crash prior to being arrested.
Investigators say Lytsell was visiting friends when he got into an argument with some neighbors. He reportedly ended up firing a handgun at them before fleeing the scene.
Paramedics treated two victims with gunshot wounds. Dana Farnsworth was transported by a Life Flight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.
The other victim, 33-year-old Crystal Hamilton, was also taken to Emanuel Hospital by ambulance. She was treated and released from the hospital.
A memorial fund has been setup for the family of Dana
Farnsworth.
