HUBBARD, OR (KPTV) -
It's the town's pride, but North Marion High School's baseball field is scarred and torn apart after the principal says someone deliberately destroyed it.
Principal DeAnn Jenness says she arrived on campus yesterday morning to a torn down fence and circular tire marks scarring the school's baseball and football fields.
School surveillance cameras caught an image of a white van in the act at about 1 a.m. Monday. The principal says two men were inside, and in addition to the vandalism, they also stole a school sign and left beer cans behind.
The team has a home game this Wednesday. Between now and then, maintenance crews are busy mowing down the tracks, putting in seeds and repairing the fence to get it back up and running.
So far, the principal says she does not believe this was the work of school rivals, but says it'll cost thousands to repair.
"It was very heartbreaking knowing all the work that we've done and being in the middle of baseball season, it was just too difficult to swallow," Jenness said.
Police say the suspect car is a white Ford van, likely with front-end damage. They believe there were two men inside. If you know anything, contact Hubbard police.
