PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Mayor Sam Adams rescheduled a vote to determine if city operated security cameras should be allowed in Portland's Old Town district.
City Hall was supposed to vote on it today, but the mayor removed it from the agenda last night, saying he wants the police bureau to tweak their draft proposal before the vote is taken.
The cameras would be installed on private property in order to help cut down on drug deals in the area.

Protesters surrounded City Hall today to voice their concerns.
"I think that all it would do is give the police another way to spend our money and violate our civil liberties," said one protester, Steven Reynolds. "It's a huge waste of money. I don't think spy cameras have been shown to be effective where they've been implemented in the past."
The vote is now scheduled for Wednesday, May 30, at 9:30 a.m.
