PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Lincoln High School's constitution team was honored for winning first place in the national finals of the 25th annual We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition.
The competition is designed to simulate congressional hearings and teaches students about the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The team competed against 55 of the nation's high school teams for a place in the national competition. The Lincoln High School team came in first out of the top 10 schools at the national finals in Washington, D.C.
Portland City Council celebrated this victory at Portland City Hall this morning.
Nick Fish, the City Parks and Housing commissioner and an annual judge at the regional competition, read a proclamation on behalf of Portland City Council.
"The Lincoln Constitution Team brings great distinction to their school and our community," Fish said.
Lincoln High School finished in fourth place at the competition in 2010.
