ONTARIO, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Police are investigating a two-car crash on Highway 201, about four miles north of Ontario, that killed one person.

Police say that about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday a 1997 Ford Escort driven by 30-year-old Dustin Rhoads Benjamin was heading north.

They say for an unknown reason the car traveled onto the gravel shoulder, the driver over-corrected and the car slid sideways back onto the highway.

Officers say it was then hit broadside by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 38-year-old Kenneth E. Benton.

Police say the impact killed Benjamin and that Benton was not injured.

There are still looking into whether either driver was wearing a safety belt.
