SHERWOOD, OR (KTPV) -
A Sherwood family is heartbroken after Fox 12's Most Wanted burglarized their home and stole thousands of dollars worth of valuables, as well as items which cannot be replaced.
Barney Grant says thieves stole the pewter urn which contained his baby son's ashes from his bedroom. His son, Luke, died in 2010 of SIDS.
"It was the last thing we had of our son," said Grant.
In addition to the urn, he says the burglars took a laptop, cameras and a hard drive with countless family photos. The loss has devastated Barney and his wife, Katie.
"They robbed more than our houses," said Grant. "They robbed her (Katie) of a lot of work and a lot of memories. It's a heartless thing to do."
Grant told Fox 12 he returned to his home on Southwest Hells Canyon Road Wednesday evening after work to find his front door had been pried open. He said the thieves had rummaged through the living room, bathroom and bedroom.
In addition to the priceless items stolen, they took safes filled with personal information and documents, a pistol, benchmark knives custom engraved with his name, as well as miscellaneous items, such as towels, makeup and even tools, which Grant uses for work as a carpenter.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crime which is believed to have occurred sometime Wednesday afternoon while the Grants were away at work.
"I think somebody had probably scoped it out already," said Grant.
The family just hopes the thieves are found before it's too late to recover the items that matter most.
"We just hope whoever did this gets caught," said Grant. "If we could get our personal stuff back, everything else doesn't matter."
Anyone with information that could help investigators is urged to call the WashingtonCounty Sheriff's Office at 503-846-2700.
