MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -
An elderly Milwaukie man survived an extremely close call – a car came crashing through his wall just feet from where he was sitting.
"All at once I heard a crash and a car came through the window," said Don Brownrigg, 97, who lives at The Springs retirement community.
His recliner was pushed across the room with him sitting in it, but he remained in the chair. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said Owen Gotchall, 89, was trying to park his Toyota sedan when he hit the gas instead of the brake.
"I wasn't doing much thinking," said Brownrigg when asked what was going through his mind during the crash. "I'm just so glad that nothing was hurting me."
Brownrigg went to a hospital to be checked out, but only suffered bruises on his right leg. He is staying with his daughter and son-in-law in Milwaukie until he can return to his apartment.
A retirement community spokeswoman said Gotchall is very apologetic and will pay for the damages. He will no longer be driving, the spokeswoman said.
Brownrigg will be able to return to his apartment in about a week once repairs are complete.
