Man accused of murdering girlfriend makes first court appearance

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man accused of beating one of his girlfriends to death appeared before a Washington County judge today.

Paul Sanelle faces murder charges in the death of Julianne Herinckx.

Police say Herinckx died from blunt force trauma and investigators believe Sanelle beat her to death.

They also believe Sanelle was abusing her for an extended period of time but police say Herinckx never called for help.

Herinckx's best friend Kathleen Welsh was in court today for Sanelle's arraignment. She believes he is guilty.

"He deserves everything he's going to get and she deserves a hell of a lot better," Welsh told Fox 12.

Sanelle will be back in court on May 21.
