TUALATIN, OR (KPTV) -

Two boys accused of setting a fire that heavily damaged a Tualatin church will not go to trial, according to court officials.

Lawyers for the 13-year-old defendants said Tuesday that they've reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

Investigators said the boys broke into the Living Savior Lutheran Church in March and started a fire that tore through the sanctuary and preschool.

One of the boys was scheduled for sentencing today for the crime, but attorneys said his father asked for more time so the family can look into where he will serve his sentence.

The pastor of the church told Fox 12 he hopes the boys will learn from their mistake.

"We hope that they grow up to be law-abiding, contributing citizens of society," Pastor Nathan Brandt said.

Church leaders hope to have a new sanctuary constructed by this fall.
