PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Thousands showed up to take part in Portland's first Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon, a new signature Rose Festival event.
About 14,000 runners took to the course while more than 20 bands played along the route. About half of the runners were from outside Oregon.
The unique half-marathon course closed several streets from where the race began at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. It wound its way through downtown, over the Hawthorne Bridge into southeast Portland, then up near the Lloyd Center in northeast Portland before coming back over the Steel Bridge into Waterfront Park again.
The top five men and women finishers win payouts, with a $1,500 prize awarded to the first-place runner.
