FAIRVIEW -
The Reynolds School District has canceled classes for Monday as administrators and teachers try to negotiate a deal to avoid a strike.
Both sides have planned a mediation session for Sunday night. If a deal can not be reached, teachers plan to strike.
Last week, teachers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike citing several major stumbling blocks with the district, including planning time and district spending.
Parents tell FOX 12 they just want the situation resolved.
"I hope they strike," said parent Bill Mengis, whose daughter attends Reynolds Middle School. "Five hundred eighty teachers, $10 million dollars - I'm not getting the picture here. That's a lot of money. Unemployment rate still 8.6 percent. Somebody needs to tell me where $10 million is going. I mean, everybody's hurting. Everybody's more responsibility and less pay. It's beyond me."
The district says commencement plans will move forward as planned for seniors at Reynolds High School and Reynolds Learning Academy.
