A man who police said killed his ex-wife at a Hillsboro home was later found dead in a pickup truck along Highway 26 early Monday morning.
Officers were called to a home on Grant Street in Hillsboro on Monday at 1 a.m. and police said 40-year-old Cindy Givens died shortly after police showed up. Before her death, Cindy Givens told officers her ex-husband, 45-year-old Steven Givens, had attacked her.
Three children -- ages 11, 15 and 18 -- were in the home at the time, but they were not involved and they were not harmed, police said.
Connie Ethell, who lives nearby, was in shock upon hearing of the homicide.
"More than anything, I can't believe this could have happened to her," Ethell said. "She's such a sweet thing. Such a wonderful, wonderful girl."
Cindy Givens' family released a statement to FOX 12 on Monday afternoon, describing her death as a tragedy.
Hunsaker Givens family is very saddened and are in disbelief by this
tragic family loss. Thank you for your generosity and respecting our
privacy. Cindy was a cherished daughter, sister, mother and friend. We
all miss her very much," the statement said.
Shortly after Cindy Givens' death Monday, police said Steven Givens was found dead in a pickup truck by a Washington County deputy on Highway 26 at milepost 49 near Banks.
Steven Givens' death did not appear to be of natural causes, police said, but the manner of his death has not been released.
