ST. HELENS, OR (KPTV) -
The mental health worker police say was killed by a client loved her job despite having some reservations, according to her daughter.
St. Helens police said Brent Redd called 911 Sunday morning to report the fatal stabbing of Jennifer Warren.
"Oh, she loved her job," said Jessica Warren, the daughter of Jennifer Warren. "She enjoyed it every day she went."
Warren had worked for Columbia Community Mental Health and regularly delivered medication to clients with criminal backgrounds, which is why she went to Redd's home Sunday morning.
Jessica Warren said a client, who was not Redd, recently told Jennifer Warren a voice told him the mental health worker tried to kill him. It was not clear if another worker was assigned to that case.
"She did mention a few times that it was kind of, it was a sketchy thing to do. But she never truly believed that anyone of them would do anything," said Jessica Warren. "I mean, I voiced it to her a couple of times, that it was kind of sketch to do but she said the meds would level them out so they were OK."
Brent Redd's medication dosage was recently reduced before an upcoming medical procedure, according to his mother and brother, Debbie and Jeramie Redd.
Brent Redd tried to kill his mother and pleaded guilty but for insanity in 2007. He was in the Oregon State Hospital until 2010, when he was granted conditional release. He remained under the jurisdiction of the state Psychiatric Review Board.
Her son had been diagnosed with psychophrenia, said Debbie Redd, and wanted the higher dosage of medication to be restored.
"He even told them, I don't want to be off my meds. Don't take them from me. He didn't feel comfortable without them," said Jeramie Redd.
A spokeswoman for CCHM declined to comment on the specifics of Redd's treatment because the case is still under investigation.
In a statement released Sunday night, CCHM said they were launching an internal review to ensure the safety of its mental health workers.
"I get beyond angry when I think of what could been done to prevent this kind of thing from happening," said Jessica Warren. "It sucks that my mother had to be the example but I'm hoping they change their mindset on how free these people can be when they've pleaded insanity."
Jennifer Warren grew up in the St. Helens area and was devoted to her family, her daughter said.
"I was my mother's only daughter, so the bond between me and her is something I can never replace or even describe to somebody," said Jessica Warren. "She was my everything because I was hers. It's hard to fathom right now, I don't quite believe that it happened."
Redd is being treated for non-life-threatening knife wounds at a Portland hospital while the investigation is being conducted. He has not been charged in connection with Warren's death.
