I-5 southbound reopens in southwest Portland after wood spills onto freeway

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Interstate 5 southbound lanes near Macadam Avenue in southwest Portland shut down for more than two hours Tuesday due to a crash.

A truck carrying lumber spilled wood onto the freeway. Photos from FOX 12's helicopter showed a large pile of wood blocking a full lane of traffic.

The crash created a huge backup on I-5, starting at around 11 a.m.

Though freeway lanes reopened at around 1:30 p.m., it was still a mess for drivers in the area.

During the closure, ODOT told drivers they should find an alternate route, such as I-205, to avoid the scene or expect long delays.

Police are investigating the crash.
