SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
A plastic water bottle device exploded in a garbage can inside Sprague High School on Thursday, leading school administrators to cancel classes for the day and send students home.
No injuries were reported in the explosion, which happened just after 10 a.m. and made for a loud bang, said Salem-Keizer schools spokesman Jay Remy.
The school was quickly evacuated, and school officials made the decision to call off classes for the rest of the day.
Police, firefighters and district security workers planned to search the building.
Students who drive or walk to school were released immediately.
Buses will be at the school at about noon to pick up other students. Parents can also pick up their children at the lower parking lot of the school.
If needed, students who have car keys or other needed items inside the school will be escorted by staff.
