PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Timbers had a special guest at Wednesday night's exhibition against Spanish club Valencia.

FOX 12 profiled Jake Dering earlier this month when he received a surprise visit from Timbers players Rodney Wallace and Mike Chabala at Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

Dering is just 7 years old, but he has had 17 operations for a condition called OPD syndrome, which causes his joints to deform and dislocate.

Dering's mother said Thursday night's Timbers match is the first time her son has been out of the house since coming home from the hospital.
