Police make an arrest in iPhone robberies

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police said they arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with three iPhone and iPad robberies in recent weeks.

Officers with the Transit Division actively investigated the crimes, both in uniform and plain clothes.

Their investigations along with TriMet surveillance video helped officers identify the suspect, and they served a search warrant at a home on Southeast 138th Avenue in Portland.

There was no word from police on what they found at the home.

Thefts of iPhones and iPads are increasing across the nation and in Portland due to the growing popularity of the devices.

Police ask that people on a MAX train, on a city sidewalk or in a park stay aware of their surroundings and people around them. Police said you should always keep your device close to you and stow it away when you are not using it.

Police said the teenage suspect will be charged in juvenile court with robbery, computer crime and theft.
