Lightning destroys tree near Vancouver school

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A bolt of lightning destroyed a tree near a Vancouver school Friday night.

It happened by Hudson's Bay High School right off Mill Plain Boulevard.

The tree exploded into pieces, leaving only a tall, jagged stump left in the ground.

A tree standing right next to it appeared virtually untouched by the whole ordeal.

Many people went to the scene to check it out, take photos and some even walked away with a piece of the tree as a souvenir.
