Reynolds School District strike over

TROUTDALE, OR (KPTV) -

Students will return to class on Tuesday after all.

A tentative agreement has been reached between Reynolds School District and the Reynolds Education Association, ending a year-long dispute and a five-day strike.

"We are thrilled that we have a tentative agreement with the teachers union," said Superintendent Dr. Joyce Henstrand.  "Schools will be re-opened on Tuesday, May 29 with a two-hour late start, no AM kindergarten to allow for teachers to check in to the building and prepare classrooms for students."

In statement, Reynolds Education Association President Joyce Rosenau said, "We are proud of the courage our members showed during the five days of our strike. We will remember this experience for many years."

An 18-hour mediation that started at noon on Friday stretched through the night and into early Saturday morning. Details of the tentative agreement won't be shared until it's  reviewed and voted upon by union members.

The union's ratification vote is set to take place on Wednesday. The Reynolds school board is planning to conduct a vote during its meeting on Wednesday as well.
