FAIRVIEW, OR (KPTV) -

Students in the Reynolds School District went back to class Tuesday after teachers and the school board reached a tentative deal Saturday over a new contract.

Dozens of teachers and staff members started arriving at Reynolds High School shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Classes district-wide began two hours late Tuesday and there was no a.m. kindergarten, the district said. District leaders hoped the late start would give teachers enough time to get their classrooms ready for students. Many teachers had cleaned out their classrooms before the strike began not knowing if they'd be back before the end of the school year.

"Ecstatic. I am so glad to be back. I am so eager to see my kids. I'm so glad this got settled," said Reynolds High School teacher Sylvia McGauley.

The tentative contract agreement reached over the weekend still needs to be approved by the teachers' union and the school board. Votes are expected to take place Wednesday.

District leaders say they will not release any details of the three-year tentative deal until both sides approve it.

Teachers hit the picket lines last Monday after both sides failed to reach an agreement over a new contract after a mediation session that lasted more than 20 hours. They've been negotiating for months.
