PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Timbers will start what they hope to be a championship run in the 2012 U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night when they host amateur club Cal FC at JELD-WEN Field.

A win against Cal FC could potentially set up a third-round U.S. Open Cup match with the Seattle Sounders in Portland. That match would take place June 5, but it requires the Timbers to beat Cal FC and the Sounders to defeat the Atlanta Silverbacks.

The U.S. Open Cup is a 64-team tournament with 32 amateur teams playing in the first round. The Sounders have won the last three Open Cup titles.

Tickets for Wednesday night's Timbers-Cal FC match start at $10 and are still available to purchase at the JELD-WEN box office or through Ticketmaster.

The match will not be televised, but Timbers fans can watch a livestream of the match at www.portlandtimbers.com.
