State Route 500 will be fully closed between Interstate 5 and Falk Road beginning tonight at 10 p.m.
During the closure, contractor crews working with the Washington State Department of Transportation will remove wood panels from the underside of the St. Johns Boulevard bridge deck.
While the highway is closed, crews will also install new overhead interchange signs, underground storm drains, and if weather permits, refresh road striping on State Route 500.
The work is part of a $48 million project to construct an interchange at SR 500 and St. Johns Boulevard. The new interchange will replace the existing traffic signal.
The Washington State Department of Transportation said the project will help reduce rear-end collisions and allowing free-flowing traffic on this section of the heavily traveled corridor.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2013. Drivers should follow signed detour routes to navigate around the closure.
