Two-alarm fire damages warehouse in southeast Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters have put out a two-alarm fire at a four-story concrete warehouse in southeast Portland.

Crews first responded to the building at 2715 SE Eighth Ave. just before noon and they found smoke coming from the third floor of the abandoned building.

When firefighters got to the third floor, the staircase they were climbing began to shake and show signs of being compromised.

Firefighters immediately began to back out of the building, but one firefighter nearly fell through a hole in the first floor. He was able to stop himself from falling with his arms and his crew pulled him out as they evacuated.

The fire was brought under control at 3 p.m., but investigators are now trying to determine the cause. Everyone inside was able to escape safely.

The building is part of a complex once owned by Darigold dairy, but it's now under different ownership.
