ALOHA, OR (KPTV) -
A man who died after being shot once by a Washington County sheriff's deputy had pointed the rifle in the direction of deputies in a threatening manner, the sheriff's office said.
Robert Fox, 52, lived at the home in the 6700 block of Southwest 180th Avenue near Barcelona Lane, where deputies were called to a domestic disturbance Sunday at 3:15 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they encountered a man exiting the home with a high-powered rifle, the sheriff's office said.
Witnesses said they heard deputies ordering Fox to drop the rifle, and a deputy shot Fox once in front of the home.
"Police told him to drop it probably a dozen
times and he didn't drop it, and then I heard a gunshot," said neighbor Steve Vass.
Fox was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors told FOX 12 that Fox had a wife and children.
"I didn't see any
indication anything like this could have happened," said Marilyn Hedlund who lives nearby.
A spokesman for the Fox family said they're not ready to comment.
The name of the deputy involved in the shooting has not been released.
The deputy remains on leave, as the investigation into the incident continues.
