BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -
The Beaverton School Board is expected to vote on $37 million in cuts to schools Monday.
That could mean the lay-off of 344 teachers and other staff, as well as cuts to the arts and music programs.
Beaverton is Oregon's third-largest school district, but its proposed cuts are the deepest. This is the fifth year of budget cuts for Beaverton.
Portland Public Schools was facing the loss of more than 100 teachers and staff, but city officials stepped in to help. In the meantime, Beaverton city officials decided not to help out Beaverton schools with their budget crisis.
There is also a proposal to cut more days from the school year to save some teaching jobs. The current proposal before the board cuts five days.
