PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A report of a suicidal woman in southwest Portland caused Hayhurst School to go into lockdown mode Monday morning.

Portland police responded to the 5100 block of Southwest Fairvale Court at 10:15 a.m. They were told a woman inside a house there was suicidal and armed with a gun.

Officers asked for Hayhurst to go into lockdown while they responded to the distraught woman because the school is within a few hundred yards of the home.

Police said the woman is believed to be alone inside the home. After a few hours of trying to make contact with her, officers decided to discontinue their attempts and walk away from the home.

It's believed the woman is still inside alone.

Hayhurst School will remain in lockdown until school lets out Monday afternoon. All students will be dismissed out the front doors of the school.
