New general manager for Trail Blazers

Posted: Updated:

The Portland Trail Blazers have hired Neil Olshey as their new general manager. Team President Larry Miller announced the decision Monday. Olshey officially parted ways with the Los Angeles Clippers Monday afternoon.  He served as the team's vice president of basketball operations for the past two seasons.

Olshey had recently interviewed with Trail Blazers Owner Paul Allen while on a trip to London. He also interviewed for the GM position last year, according to the LA Times.

The terms of the contract were not disclosed as per team policy.

"Neil is someone we've had on our radar for quite a while," said Miller. "Over the past two seasons he has demonstrated success in constructing a roster, managing salary cap and evaluating player talent. We feel very fortunate to have him in Portland and are thrilled about what this means for the future."

Last year, the Clippers went 40-26 under Olshey. That is the best winning percentage (60.6) in franchise history.

Olshey will become the 10th general manager in Trail Blazers history. He came in third for the 2011-12 NBA Executive of the Year Award.

As the Blazers get ready for new management, Clippers President Andy Roeser says they are now searching for a new general manager.

For now, coach Vinney Del Negro, Director of Player Personnel Gary Sacks and Roeser will handle all of the team's responsibilities in regard to the teams operations.
