LAKE OSWEGO, OR (KPTV) -
A man jailed on aggravated murder charges used a hunting rifle to shoot and kill his mother and nephew at a Lake Oswego home Sunday, sheriff's deputies allege.
Adrien Wallace, 41, is being held at the Clackamas County Jail.
A probable cause statement from the sheriff's office said Wallace opened fire on 71-year-old Saundra Wallace and 16-year-old Nicholas Juarez, shooting them both in the face at about 6:15 p.m. Monday.
Saundra Wallace and Juarez were trying to leave the home in the 1800 block of Indian Springs Circle at the time, deputies said. Juarez was in town visiting from California, according to friends of Wallace.
There's no word on a motive for the shooting.
"I heard 10 gunshots, and then all of the neighbors started calling each other; it was scary," said homeowner William Lamb. "I called 911, then other neighbors called 911 and then we all went on lockdown in our houses."
Neighbor Jeremy Vermilyea who lives across the street saw the shooting. He told Fox 12 the teen was sitting inside the car; the mother was shot on the driveway.
"He put the gun down, went into the house, and that was it," said Vermilyea.
Adrien Wallace was taken into custody at the scene without struggle. Investigators say the murder weapon was found nearby.
Neighbors say there had never been problems at the Wallace home before. Sue Wallace was known in the community for her green thumb.
"She was just a very nice woman," said Vermilyea. "Her garden was her pride and joy."
Sue Wallace dedicated countless hours to the Clackamas County Master Gardening program and even won a green glove award through the group, according to fellow home gardeners.
"She was an outstanding person," said Charlene Tuttle. "All I can say is this is such a tragedy. She had her grandson up for a week, took him to Seattle to do all the fun things. She was going to drive to California today."
Adrien Wallace made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon and faces two counts of aggravated murder. He declined an interview request from FOX 12. He's due back in court on Friday.
