WILSONVILLE, OR (KPTV) -
Deputies arrested a man who was behind the wheel of a pickup that crashed into the side of a Wilsonville home.
Investigators said 40-year-old Nicholas Butler had been drinking before the crash that happened about 1:45 a.m. Saturday in the 8800 block of Southwest Kalyca Street. A family of four that was home at the time wasn't hurt.
Joevanny Garcia, 16, said he was upstairs playing video games when he felt the whole house shake. At first, he thought it was an earthquake.
"I looked at the living room and it felt like something was there," he said. "I heard an engine so I turned on the light and saw a huge crack in the wall and I was like, ‘Mom I think a car crashed into the house!'"
Garcia said he woke up his parents and called 911.
Once outside, the family said Butler asked them not to call the police and offered to repair the damage next week.
The truck had driven over a sidewalk, through some bushes and a wooden fence, before slamming into the chimney on the side of the house.
Deputies said Butler got back into his truck and drove off after the crash, but he didn't get far. Deputies found Butler's truck parked in his driveway eight houses away.
When deputies asked Butler to come out of the house, they said he was agitated, aggressive and appeared to be intoxicated.
After a brief struggle, deputies arrested Butler on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest and failing to perform the duties of a driver.
Before he was booked into jail, Butler was hospitalized for a cut on his head he suffered during the struggle with deputies.
Two of the three deputies who responded had minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
According to investigators, Butler's blood alcohol content was determined to be .135.
This isn't the first time Butler has made the news.
Butler was called a hero in late March after he tackled a bank robbery suspect in Wilsonville.
