VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -
A debate on whether to limit the kind of fireworks sold in Vancouver will fully ignite tonight when it hits the City Council floor.
City leaders will decide whether to ban fireworks that shoot up into the air or travel horizontally more than 15 feet.
Vancouver is the only city in Washington that still allows Roman candles and aerial spinners.
A new law would bring the city in line with both Oregon and Washington state laws.
Though the City Council agenda admits Vancouver has a long tradition of allowing the use of consumer fireworks, it says the Council is considering the change to further reduce the risk of fires and injuries, as well reduce noise and trash.
The Columbian newspaper reports the law, if approved, wouldn't go into effect until 2013.
