THE DALLES, OR (KPTV) -
A truck pulling a semitrailer struck a cougar on Interstate 84 on Tuesday, and the ensuing diesel spill from the semi closed westbound lanes for about six hours.
The crash happened at about 1:15 a.m. on I-84 westbound west of The Dalles.
After hitting the cougar, the truck's fuel crossover line was damaged, causing roughly 100 gallons of diesel to spill on the roadway, police said. The truck's driver was able to plug the leak and prevent a larger spill.
ODOT's cleanup at the scene led to a closure of westbound lanes until 7:30 a.m.
The 2-year-old male cougar was killed in the wreck.
There were no injuries to the driver.
