Naked man rescued from island along WA river

SEATTLE, WA (KPTV) -

A Washington man has quite a story to tell after a trip down the river ended with him being stranded naked on an island.

John Culp said he went for a walk with his dog Ozzie along the Green River near Seattle when his feet started to blister and hurt.

He then decided to take a trip down the river on an inflatable raft he had been carrying in his backpack.

Culp said everything was going fine until he and Ozzie came across some sort of manmade obstacle in the river that sucked him out of his raft.

"I couldn't paddle. I was going under and I saw that the bank was getting closer and I started swimming for my life," Culp said.

Culp grabbed a branch and pulled himself onto an island. He then stripped off his clothes and tried to warm up.

He also built a shelter and cuddled with his dog until nearby construction workers heard his screams for help Wednesday.

Culp said he's thankful to be alive.
