NORTH BEND, OR (KPTV) -
The Coast Guard rescued a man, along with man's best friend, on a small island in the Coos River on Thursday.
The man called for help on his cell phone at 4 p.m. and said he had been stranded since low tide the previous day.
The man stated he was hypoglycemic, out of food and feeling weak. His condition left him unable to refloat his 16-foot pleasure craft at high tide about three miles east of the North Bend Bridge.
A helicopter crew launched from Air Station North bend at 4:20 p.m.
Once the Coast Guard crew spotted the man, they lowered a rescue basket. But the man wasn't coming up alone.
He also had his dog with him.
Once they were safely on board the helicopter, the man and his dog were checked out by medical staff. They are both said to be in good condition.
