PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A big weekend of auto racing kicks off Friday at Portland International Raceway as racers take part in another year of the oldest amateur auto racing event west of the Mississippi.
The 52nd running of the Rose Cup Races will include the 2012 Super Drift Crown Series, a professional drifiting competition judged according to speed, angle and line taken through a corner. In motor sports, drifting is when the driver intentionally oversteers and slides rear-first into a corner.
The Super Drift Crown Series is part of a day full of activities Saturday, June 16, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. including an expo, live music, a car show and a driver meet-and-greet with drifting driver Hero Yoon. Drifting demonstrations take place Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The classic 52nd Annual Rose CUp Races will also take place this weekend. It will feature cars reaching speeds of more than 165 mph and includes past winners Monte Shelton and Stan Hodge.
Individual ticket prices vary and fans can buy a three-day pass for $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. For more information, visit rosefestival.org.
