ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -
Oregon State Police continue to investigate a deadly head-on traffic crash involving a car and a commercial truck on Highway 30 east of Astoria.
Troopers said that Thursday at about 9:05 a.m. a Toyota Camry driven by Carol Lorraine Howard of Longview, WA, was headed east on Highway 30 when the car veered into the westbound lane.
The car crashed head-on with a Kenworth truck pulling an empty chip trailer driven by Randy Davies from Bay City, OR.
State police said Davies tried to avoid the crash, but they found no evidence of braking from the car before impact.
The impact ejected Howard from the car and killed her. She was not using safety restraints.
Davies suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was driving for Don Averill Trucking out of Tillamook, OR, and was wearing a seat belt.
Troopers found a child car seat inside the Camry and extensively searched for a child.
No child was found, and they later confirmed no child passenger was in the car with Davies.
OSP also confirmed that Howard was reported as a missing person to Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office on June 13 at about 7 p.m.
