ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -
A 16-year-old Astoria boy was arrested at the end of October last year after police said he tried to recruit a friend to join him in a mass shooting at Astoria High School.
Friday, a new twist in the case was revealed. He pleaded guilty in April, but now his attorney said he's withdrawing that plea in favor of an insanity defense.
In a letter to the prosecutors, the defense said the results of a psychiatric evaluation prompted the plea change.
A judge will hear the new arguments next week.
