Water fills NW Portland street after main break

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

An 8-inch cast iron water main broke on Northwest 31st Avenue on Monday morning, causing water to fill the streets and temporarily block the road.

City water officials said an employee of General Building Supply called in the main break at 6 a.m.

Crews responded and turned off the valves in order to stop the water from spilling into the streets.

It's too early to tell what caused the main break.

TriMet's No. 17 bus line avoided a bus stop at the site of the main break. Because it happened on a side street, it had very little effect on traffic.

It did, however, create a big mess to clean up.
