West Linn man hiking with wife dies in 30-foot fall

CARSON, WA (KPTV) -

A West Linn man who stumbled on a trail died in a 30-foot fall from Falls Creek Trail in Skamania County on Sunday.

Thomas Bennett, 65, was hiking with his wife in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest when he went over the vertical cliff, deputies said.

Another hiker came upon Bennett's wife and he drove her to Carson, WA, where the fall was reported.

Search and rescue teams eventually found Bennett submerged in about three feet of water in Falls Creek.

Skamania County deputies, paramedics and firefighters all responded.
