PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A year-round public market proposal for Downtown Portland is closer to being constructed, following the recent approval of a commercial real estate transaction, according to Multnomah County officials.
Multnomah County Commissioners voted unanimously to sell the Morrison Bridgehead property to Melvin Mark Development for $10.4 million, county officials said.
The developers plan to build an indoor-outdoor food market, and a high-rise tower at the site.
The James Beard Public Market will feature 110 local vendors and will create 350 jobs, representatives said.
The Morrison Bridgehead, a 3.12-acre site on the west side of the Morrison Bridge in downtown Portland, has long been identified as a gateway to downtown and an ideal location for a major attraction, county officials said.
According to the developers, the plans include a sky-bridge connecting the public market and the office tower.
